Circling, Awakening, Interbeing and 21st century Tantra – With Andrew Venezia

State of the Relating Arts #6

State of the Relating Arts is a monthly free zoom meeting where people with interest or experience in the ecology of relating arts practices give a taste of their work or talk about the developments in the field of practice. This month will be an introduction to the basic work of Peter Munthe-Kaas.

This month’s theme

We live in an intense moment! Institutions cracking, frames collapsing, economic and ecological stress. When we reach out to find something to do about all of this, we find an overwhelming abundance of responses with no clear place to start — our mental landscape is as overwhelmed as our world. There are more books, approaches, practices, and narratives available at our literal fingertips than we could ever understand if given 10,000 lifetimes, all presented in increasingly bite-sized and attention-assaulting form, all only increasing in speed!

All of this cacophony and chaos is a quiet but urgent invitation to discover the simplicity found in our direct experience of this moment, and in the touch of our actual human connections. What we can find there echoes and reinvigorates the timeless wisdom of our human lineages, offering new and vital soil for our deep and enduring questions about what it is to be alive, to be human.

This is the context for a reinvigoration of the practice of Circling as a Tantric path of Awakening & Integration, and the subject of this Co-Talk. We’ll explore Circling as a Practice of Awakening, the renewal of classical tantra for our modern world and circumstances, and the way this simple practice of relationship can integrate the disparate threads of inner work — meditation, embodiment, healing, awakening — into a single living thing. (And potentially much more.)

What’s a Co-Talk?

A Co-Talk is something between a Q&A, a lecture, podcast episode, a panel discussion, and a practice of shared Inquiry. Andrew will give a brief talk (15 – 20 mins) on the above material, and then call us into shared discussion — a practice of thinking and learning together better than any of us could alone.

(Much of this material can be found in Andrew’s recent book “What is it Like to Be You,” available for free on his website, andrewlouisvenezia.life.)
