London Relatefulness Immersion

Courage is not what happens after fear leaves. Courage is what allows us to stay.

Before we knew who we were, we were touched.
Not only by hands, but by eyes.
By attention.
By recognition.
By the subtle ways another nervous system taught ours what was safe, what was dangerous, what was welcome, and what was possible.
We are shaped by contact.
Our confidence.
Our shame.
Our longing.
Our capacity to trust.
Our ability to love.
None of these emerge in isolation.
They arrive through relationship.
This immersion explores the lineage of contact that lives within each of us.
The ways we learned to belong.
The ways we learned to hide.
The ways we learned to manage how others perceive us in order to remain connected.
For many of us, the place where we most carefully control how we are seen is the very place where we long most deeply to be met.
And yet there is a paradox.
If we cannot learn to be seen, we cannot learn to be touched.
Not emotionally.
Not relationally.
Not spiritually.
The same place that organizes image can become a doorway to intimacy.
The same place that braces can learn to soften.
The same place that performs can learn to receive.
Throughout the weekend, we will explore awareness through relationship—discovering what becomes available when attention, honesty, and presence are brought into contact with one another.
This is not a safe space.
Not because safety is unimportant, but because safety is not always what growth asks of us.
We aspire instead to create a brave space.
A space where people are supported in telling the truth.
A space where discomfort is not treated as a mistake.
A space where uncertainty can be welcomed rather than resolved.
A space where care and challenge are allowed to coexist.
You will never be asked to go faster than your own willingness.
You will never be required to share more than you choose.
And yet you may find yourself invited into edges that are difficult to reach alone.
The goal is not comfort.
The goal is contact.
Not the absence of fear, but the capacity to remain in relationship with ourselves and one another while fear is present.
Because courage is not what happens after fear leaves.
Courage is what allows us to stay.

I am based most often in Austin, TX. Right before he died, my grandfather said to me, “Don’t ever retire.” I was participating in relating practices in my off-time and decided to make that my career. I love connection and I love how I’m changed by listening to people without trying to change them. Some people realize that we can only ever know people better. Even fewer understand that the same is true about ourselves.
