The Art of Listening: Resonance

Circling & Surrendered Leadership Weekend Gothenburg

This weekend immersion is focused on getting in touch and being touched. Resonance means being in connection with and impacted by something outside of ourselves and implies staying open in an exploration of the relationships we are in.

What to expect
At this weekend immersion we will continue playing with the themes from the first Art of Listening event, by exploring the experience of resonance. Through Circling, Relatefulness, Surrendered Leadership and various embodiment practices we will be playing with the balance between “healthy independence” and “healthy interdependence” to get closer to a responsive relationship to each other and the world.

Resonance happens when we let go of our knowing and allow ourselves to experience the world and each other anew.

“…a kind of relationship to the world, formed through affect and emotion, intrinsic interest, and perceived self-efficacy, in which subject and world are mutually affected and transformed. Resonance is not an echo, but a responsive relationship, requiring that both sides speak with their own voice… Resonant relationships require that both subject and world be sufficiently “closed” or self-consistent so as to each speak in their own voice, while also remaining open enough to be affected or reached by each other.”

Practices
We will draw on various relating practices at the event.

Movement, bodywork, touch
We will be exploring the ways we can listen more to other bodies through facilitated exercises inspired by dance, tai chi, body therapy and other forms of bodywork.

The way in is to discover how we can get out of our own way and really trust in our embodied experiences.

Circling, Relatefulness
We will be practicing awareness in connection. Being present with someone else while staying open to the impact they are having on you, listening with your emotional body as well as hearing the words. When we stay open to and listen to each other in presence we can step into new territory and explore connection and resonance.

Throughout the workshop we will bring in these facilitated practices to discover and play with new parts of ourselves and then go into Surrendered Leadership circles to play with resonance in an “as close to real life as we can come” container.

Surrendered Leadership
We use surrendered leadership, an open container that in many ways simulate life (or at least seems to allow us to experience ourselves in the ways we instinctively show up around other people) as a testing ground.

Usually what happens is that we get to see that it is difficult for us to do something new and maybe also get in touch with why and do small experiments with stepping into the unknown together.

Some of the themes of the weekend will be:Touching your longings for life.
Accessing awe and wonder.
How to be in the unknown with someone else.
The difference between reacting and responding.
Making life an artform.

Please do this at home:
We want the workshop to be an inspiration for everyone who participates (including ourselves) to live more resonant lives. Our intention is that you will go home from this workshop with an idea of what it means to be in a more resonant relationship to others and the world. We will also follow the workshop up with an integration call around 10 days after the end, to inspire all of us to experiment with our listening after we leave the workshop setting.

I’ve been at two Weekends of Circling with Peter and found them to be perfectly challenging and wonderfully inspiring. Peter combines a sensitive empathy with a direct honesty that opens a safe and exciting space for exploring. I’m very grateful for my experiences and would recommend Peter and his approach to Circling to anyone who is interested in exploring themselves and how they show up with others.
Ernest

I’ve had Body Therapy Sessions with Peter since June 2020 and can highly recommend it!
I’ve had regular ManuVision sessions with different therapists doing the last five years, and have never so quickly felt seen, held and at ease with whatever is present.
Viola

Bodywork with Peter has elicited intense emotional and psychological responses from me. I was able to surrender to my body’s powerfuI responses because Peter himself brings such a grounded, non-judgmental, and technically skilled presence.
