Ian Kyburz

I am a Zurich-based life and leadership coach and circling facilitator. I support people in shifting from trying to control life into leading from presence – where the next step reveals itself as we walk. This is what I call “Presence-Based Leadership”.

Where I’m coming from

My life has led me through many different personal and professional stages. I was deeply involved in socio-political movements in the wake of the 1968 uprisings, then worked in project and line management in the corporate world, and later in executive search, recruitment, and career coaching. All these experiences shaped my understanding of people, empowerment, and change, and they now flow into my work as a coach and facilitator.

“You are a coach, so just do it!”

In 2008, a psychotherapist strongly recommended that I become a coach. She literally said, “You are a coach, so just do it!” – and that is how I found my real passion: life and leadership coaching.

Since then, people have come to me when they want to grow personally, step into leadership, find clarity in their career, cope better with stress, strengthen their relationships, or rediscover a lost sense of meaning in life.

The transition to circling

In 2021, I was fortunate to meet the circling world. I discovered a whole new depth of authentic connection, which led to a significant shift from my former “traditional” coaching into what I now call Presence-Based Leadership.

Circling and other relational practices brought me closer to a fundamental missing component in my work: an inner connection that allows me to truly open my heart to the world. Experiencing myself as deeply relational gave me access to much more aliveness and fulfillment. What moves me now is an insatiable hunger to be in presence-based connection with others, full of openness and curiosity.

Experience with circling and other relating arts
Over the last five years, I have immersed myself in circling and other relational practices:
– I have taken part in many events such as circling festivals, retreats, evenings, online groups, and countless dyads.
– In 2022/2023 I did the facilitator training (SAS) of Transformational Connection in Zurich – a tough, very rich and mind-blowing training that brought me to my limits and expanded my capacity to be with others.
– I have organized and led many circling events in Zurich (introductory events, circling evenings, closed groups, and weekends – some co-led with members of the Circling Schweiz team).
– I continuously integrate these practices into my professional work as a coach. Today, I am fully dedicated to relating practices.

Presence-Based Leadership

In a nutshell, “Let the way unfold as we walk” describes what I offer to my clients. Whether we meet in nature, in my office, or online, we explore how life can unfold when we dive into the present moment together. Presence-Based Leadership emerges when we allow ourselves to be guided by the wholeness of the moment and by offering each other authentic resonance.

When we are fully present with each other, we do not begin with fixed goals or ready-made solutions. Instead, we explore new territory as it unfolds between us. As trust grows, we naturally arrive at the issues that truly matter to you, often from deep within.

Everything that appears difficult, unpleasant, or blocking is given the space it needs to be seen. Integrating inner, hidden, or wounded parts of ourselves may require strength and courage, but I often experience how a trustworthy, presence-based atmosphere encourages this process and releases long-needed inner resources. These resources help us deal better with challenges and open the door to more genuine joy, more genuine connection, and more fulfillment in life.

This work might be for you if you long for deeper connection, feel stuck in familiar patterns in relationships or leadership, or sense that something important inside you wants to be met and included.
