Reality with a big R
We used to relate very directly to the ground, plats, animals, weather and seasons. It showed us that no situation or time is ever really quite the same as the previous. There are cycles, there are patterns, there are skills that you can aquire, but, we need to stay open to what’s here now, even just to step with our feet. Social reality, although maybe not being Reality with a big R, still holds a lot of power.
In our bodies we know the cultures we live in so well that we don’t even need to be aware of them most of the time to manuver them perfectly. For most of us we are so embedded in our ways of being in the world that we become passive to it. I hold that we can actively be awake to- and formulate culture, our being in the world and co-create with our surroundings a world that is more true to our alignment and our biology.
Background
There are two things, outside of my direct family system and growing up there, that has greatly impacted how I have approached and is now embedded in what I do. One is growing up in a cult, the other is practicing martial arts. One of them has been a lifelong wish to understand how cultures and the social fabric become what they are and how change within them happen, and even more importantly how change can happen in a sustainable way, and the other has been a place that allowed me to sit in observation and creation of my world view, how to figure out what matters, what to pay attention to, and how to test reality against something undeniably real.
These things lay the foundation of my interest that led me to stay with relational practices from the moment of exposure in my first workshop. I learnt that some types of listening and communicating with the world around me that addresses the actual glue of relationships, that points to underlying structures and assumptions, is the clearest way for things, people, information, relationships to be sorted into its truest place that it can have in that moment. It felt like I understood why we humans make such a mess out of reality together, which was a problem for me at the time.
After going deeper and leading for some years, after becoming good at allowing what is, enjoying what is, and truly feeling a wholeness surrounding the now, I started leaning into how to include future and becoming in the now, being with potential, learning how others can also perceive potential.
