Tova Ekenberg

Hi, I’m Tova. Actress and theatre maker, a Circling facilitator, and I offer one-to-one sessions. With roots in the performing arts, I bring my training as an actress and dancer into transformative spaces to support personal and collective growth. I’m based in Uddebo, a small community outside of Gothenburg.

Circling

I discovered Circling back in 2018. I was so shaken by the experience that it took me a year to return to it, but after that I was hooked. Since it was so profound for me, I was also eager to host the practice — to let other people taste what I’d tasted. After a few years of trial and error on how to do that on my own, I certified through Circling Europe’s (now Transformational Connection) six-month Leadership Program.

What I’ve found in Circling is a way to be with what is, far beyond the lens of healing. Yes, I’ve had countless transformational experiences and releases of social-emotional wounds, but it feels important to me that the practice encompasses all forms of life energy — playfulness, non-sense, sincerity, rest (even sleeping!), and simply being. In a way, I’ve noticed how it integrates and bridges the more focused healing practices into everyday life. Circling helps me steer closer to how I want to live my life and how I can show up more fully in the world with everything that I am.

Creative expression and Healing

Backing up the tape…

Before I had Circling or any therapeutic tools, I had creative expression. Art was my first medicine. I scribbled my way through school and chose as many artful subjects as I could at Gymnasium — it was both a passion and a necessity. After that, I made a choice to pursue acting over visual art, as I didn’t want to end up tied to a computer for work. I much rather wanted to work with my body and in a group — areas I’m still invested in.
So I went on a five-year journey of full-time acting training — a journey of continuously turning myself inside out, of expansion and discovery. I got to both shed and learn so much during these years. To immerse oneself in artistic exploration is something I wish for everyone to experience at some point, and I feel it’s one of the things I want to bring to people — raw creative nonsensical expression.

However, art wasn’t enough. Ever since my teenage years, I’ve been struggling with my mental health, with social anxiety and periods of depression. This was still very present during and after my bachelor.

After graduation, I’ve taken every opportunity I can to go on retreats, join workshops, and work with body-oriented therapists in areas that sparked my curiosity. Practices like Family Constellation, Parts Work, Authentic Relating, and simply attending countless gatherings where we live and work closely together — where social wounds are allowed to reveal themselves and be released – have been fundamental for regaining my grounded sense of self. At the same time, I’ve been awakening into a more spiritual experience of the world, which I also feel is essential to my deeper well-being.

Now, finding myself in more clarity and balance, I feel like I want to give back from what I have received. I also feel a return toward working with art and creative expression. For example, I want to bring the emotional depth, courage, and deep listening that the Relating Arts have trained me in back into theatre. And I want to bring all the play and raw expression from the arts into developmental and healing spaces.

Living a thriving future

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been concerned about the state of the world — social injustices, poverty, war, and climate pollution. It feels like everything I do is infused with the hope of creating a better today and tomorrow.

For me, the big problems are connected to the small and private ones. Mental and physical health issues arise in a disconnected and wounded population. Unhealed collective wounds create the architecture of a disconnected society — the same society that produces war and oppression.

Working with our emotional and social bodies is, for me, one pathway towards peace and towards expanding our capacity to thrive together. I’m still finding my place in all this — how and where I can contribute. I want to help both myself and humanity live better, whether I’m creating space for Circling or holding an improv workshop.

What I do

In the field of relating, I co-create weekend retreats and immersions, support individual clients, and lead local practice spaces. I have also hosted dance, improv theatre, and play workshops at different festivals.

Looking ahead I sense that something is brewing in the meeting between the relational work I do and theatre / art. For now I want to simply keep studying and to create more opportunities to grow, heal and be together.

Get in touch if you are interested in creating some of that with me, or want to work with me one-on-one. I offer coaching for creatives in solo-businesses and support for people who are going through a particularly rough period or want to transform an area in their life.

Nice things People say about me

“Tova is incredible in how she weaves together performative art, theatre, embodiment, movement, and dance with emotional attunement and big-hearted presence. There is something beautifully interdisciplinary in her work — in her humanness, her way of leading, and the depth she brings. I deeply enjoy and appreciate her work.”
Mateusz

“Tova has a depth of presence that is beautiful and rare. Never far behind her compassionate guidance is her playfulness, often expressed through her love of theatre and embodied movement. She dares to look at the mysteries of life with curiosity, and she is a truly compassionate soul who cares deeply about those around her, the environment and humanity as a whole. I send my warmest recommendations to anyone considering to work with her.”
